Un message de Sensei Mark Minarik

It is with great anticipation that I arrive at your dojo when I am invited to teach a karate seminar. It is my fifth year coming to Hull to the karate kyokai dojo, and as with every other year I am amazed with how fast the weekend passes by and it is time to return to Saskatchewan. Since the first year I came here I have seen great improvements in everyones karate understanding and improved technical ability. We start training in karate for many reasons, self-defense, physical fitness, social activity, but whatever the original reason why we started our karate training, I guarantee that is no longer the main reason that you train.

Traditional Karate becomes a part of our lives and in some cases our life’s passion. We see that the depth with which we start to study karate has great meaning to our human development and well being. Nishiyama sensei never ceased to amaze me when he was on the dojo floor teaching and demonstrating his karate. He gave his all when he was out there teaching, but the true lessons of his karate always referred to the development of the human spirit and character. Sensei used to say that ones physical development and ability hits a ceiling but ones mental knowledge and spirit continue to develop to the end of this lifetime. With this I have no doubt.

Some of my own greatest insights into karate and life itself came from studying paradox’s while we are training. Things such as soft is hard (heavy), less is more, to achieve we must lose, etc. These paradox’s not only improved my karate and made it more mature but, they also gave me great insights into living my life in a more fulfilling way. I must thank you for the paradox of the student being the teacher because for every time that you made a slight mistake, it forced me to become a better instructor. If you are unable to do something, it is not that you cannot do it but rather that I am not teaching it clear enough. I hope you enjoyed the training and will find some of it useful to develop your karate and your life. Again, I thank you. It was a great weekend, your hospitality was wonderful as always and I look forward to seeing you again soon. If you are ever in Saskatoon, come and train with us at our dojo.
